Spring has sprung on Orcas! This always brings about a sense of renewal – a time to cleanse and begin fresh. With that in mind, I began to think about how our bodies internally cleanse and the importance of maintaining the body’s detoxifying systems, naturally.
Ancient Farro, Lentil & Arugula Salad with Garlic-Dijon Vinaigrette
Farro is a well-loved ancient grain in Italy with its Italian name of emmer wheat. Farro comes in perlato (pearled) and semi-perlato (semi-pearled); opt for semi-perlato as it has more of the fiber and nutrient-rich bran intact (or buy whole farro if you can find it).
Autumn Apples
There are those quintessential reminders in life that seem to move us from one season to the next. For me, the apple delightfully says autumn has arrived, and recently I enjoyed my first apple pressing. What fun! As we pressed and strained our apple harvest, I thought about the nutritional contribution this modest fruit brings to our lives.
Pears: A Great Pick
It’s so nice to celebrate the nutritional benefits of our local foods when in season. These days, that would have to be the abundance of fresh pears here on our island. Not only are they a good pick for the palette, they are an excellent addition to a wholesome and nutritionally balanced diet.
